Connecting The Church

*By Mary Salamon, Conservative Ladies of Washington Church Liaison

I am writing to you today on behalf of the Christian Conservative arm of our group. We are a strong arm because our strength comes from Christ Jesus. Throughout history, Christians have been the foundation for civil rights and the pursuit of justice in many nations. In England, William Wilberforce ignited the abolition of the slavery movement and succeeded in stamping out the slave trade. Here is what he said, “So enormous, so dreadful, so irremediable did the [slave] trade’s wickedness appear that my mind was completely made up for abolition. Let the consequences be what they would: I from this time determined that I would never rest until I had effected its abolition.”

In China, Christian Missionaries had a profound effect on the ban of foot binding. These Christian missionaries also convinced Chinese intellectuals, including the Buddhist reformer Kang Youwei, to oppose foot binding. In 1885, Kang founded the Foot Emancipation Society. In 1898, he wrote a memorandum to the emperor urging him to abolish foot binding, arguing that it made China an object of international ridicule.

In the United States, Christians have been at the forefront in every battle. The abolition of slavery in our nation was led by a majority of Christians and the underground railroad was operated by many God-fearing saints. Christian women led the suffrage movement giving women the right to vote. The Civil rights of the sixties led by Martin Luther King Jr. started in churches and untold thousands of Christians participated in that movement. These are a few examples.

The church once again is being called upon to stand for righteousness, truth, and light. We need to push back the darkness by prayer, fasting, and good works. A spirit of deception is in our nation and our state is attacking our rights as citizens and believers. We are called to preach the gospel and advance the kingdom of God. The Lord said, “Occupy till I come.” That word occupy means “do business.” Doing the business of the kingdom is not hiding, ignoring, or being silent on what is happening in our world. Light exposes the darkness and dissipates it. Our light does not belong under the bushel of government mandates that go directly against our conscience. We are in a spiritual war. The battle is the Lord’s, but he works through human agents to overcome the evil one. Let us be brave in this hour and search our hearts and ask the Lord what he needs from us.

The churches in our state need to rise to the task of educating, informing, and protecting the families in our communities. CLW would like to be a bridge to the churches on the governmental front. If you attend church regularly, would you please consider making an appointment with your pastor or the leading elder in your church with Julie Barrett, me, and yourself? This appointment can open up the doors of communication and understanding on how the church can come to the forefront in changing the state of Washington.

We need to reach the pastors and leaders with tools, information, and encouragement. You are the key to reaching your church and we will assist you. Please reach out to me with all your questions. mary@thequeenbeeofabsolutelyeverything.com

Thank you for your consideration.
