On Your Six

On Your Six

Gibbs heads to the elevator, calling out his team to follow.  McGee responds, “On your six, Boss.”  I had another epiphany as I watched NCIS this week.  “On your six, you’re at 12 o’clock so I’m at 6.  I got your back.”

Tony Roman took a stand.  He’s been sued by Gavin Newsom multiple times.  Each time, for a false accusation.  Tony Roman has had enough.  He won’t even appear in court now.  Stone faced, he sets out a challenge for Gavin to find some courage, come down to the restaurant and meet man to man.  He continues. “Look, Gavin.  We aren’t backing down, we won’t ever surrender, we will never dishonor the founders of our nation who risked it all when gifting us the protections of our God-given freedoms.  And we won’t dishonor our brave soldiers who have over the last 244 years given their lives defending those gifts.”  Can you guess what word I liked the best in his statement.  Hint, it begins his second sentence I’ve quoted.  He says it eight times in variations.

We won’t, we will never, our nation, gifting us, our God-given freedoms.

We won’t dishonor.

Mr. Roman is speaking with assurance.  He didn’t name anyone, but I sure think someone has his six.

Three Seattle voters filed charges to recall the directors of the Seattle School Board.  These three LADIES have decided to lead the charge and have accused the school board of failing to oversee a timely transition to in-person teaching during the COVID pandemic.  After the charges are served to the Board, per KIRO 7, a list of charges will be drafted, a hearing held, and signatures will begin to be collected.  I’m going to watch this.  I’m not in Seattle so my signature won’t count.  But I hope and pray there are many, many people who will be on these three ladies’ six.

Democrats are really good at this.  They surround each other, they have each other’s back, they have a game plan and everyone follows it.  Even some less-courageous Republicans get on their six.

This isn’t just another blog to encourage you to have each other’s six.  I found great encouragement as I went to the Scriptures.  God already gave us our six.  He just made it defensive.  Does that mean He has our 12?  Never mind.  Ephesians 6:10-18.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

Here’s the six:

Stand firm then, with the 1 – belt of truth buckled around your waist,

with the 2 – breastplate of righteousness in place,

and with your 3 – feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.

In addition to all this, take up the 4 – shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

Take the 5 – helmet of salvation

and the 6 –sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

You know who doesn’t have this armor?  Those that don’t know God.  I’m not going to be the judge here.  That’s between THEM and God.  But I probably would be pretty accurate in my assumption when I go to battle on whether they have my brand of armor.

That leaves my backside flapping out there.  I’m 100% certain God has my back.  But I think He meant it also for us as a community of believers, that we have each other’s back.  That I am on your six.  When I see someone standing up for righteousness, I’m going to work hard to get on their six.  I’ll stand with them if possible, and I’ll cheer them on.  I won’t let them stand alone with their backsides undefended.  How about you all?  You willing to be on someone’s six?

Hey, the battle hasn’t even begun really.  It certain isn’t over.  I’m hoping and praying.  Do you have my six?
