End of Federal “Press 3” Hotline: Why Washington’s 988 Centers Are Doubling Down

On July 17, 2025, the federal government officially shut down the LGBTQI+ Youth Subnetwork, also known as “Press 3”, on the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. This was a long-overdue move to end the misuse of federal taxpayer dollars and protect vulnerable children from activist-run mental health services.

But Washington State has other plans.

WA Dept of Health’s Response: In a recent email, the WA Department of Health confirmed that while the federal LGBTQI+ subnetwork is gone, Washington’s 988 crisis centers are doubling down. All three centers have now added specialized training in “LGBTQIA2S+ youth cultural humility”, a euphemism for activist-driven ideology that often encourages secrecy between children and parents.

They also promoted external activist organizations like The Trevor Project, Trans Lifeline, and the LGBT National Hotline—groups with documented histories of pushing irreversible gender transitions and bypassing parental involvement.

What Parents Need to Know:

  • In Washington, children as young as 13 can access mental health services without parental consent.
  • These services are now being reinforced with state-level training and partnerships that prioritize ideology over transparency.
  • Your child could be connected to gender clinics, housing programs, or activist counselors—without you ever knowing.

This ties directly to our ongoing investigation into HearMeWA: For months, we’ve been exposing how Washington State’s HearMeWA program quietly funnels children and young adults, ages 13 to 25, into activist-run services under the guise of “support.” These programs operate with minimal oversight and often bypass parental involvement entirely. The WA DOH’s response to the federal shutdown confirms what we’ve warned all along: when federal funding dries up, blue states will double down with state dollars. Our HearMeWA series continues to uncover how these programs connect youth to gender clinics, housing, and mental health services, without transparency or accountability. This latest development is just one more reason parents must stay informed and engaged.
