Weekend Action Items: 2/5-6

Take a few minutes today to click through the “TAKE ACTION NOW” buttons in this post to make your voice heard on a few important bills that have hearings this week (There are a LOT of bills, these are just a few we chose to target)

There are several meetings next week that do not yet have bills listed for public hearing. Please expect calls to action as soon as we learn more. *Please note: all action must be taken AT LEAST one hour prior to the start of the meeting.

HB-1226 has a hearing in the House Capital Budget Committee on Monday, February 7 at 8AM.

HB-1226: Concerning School District Elections: This bill will increase taxes and potentially bankrupt the state on Capital Budget which would provide matching funds to school boards. This bill would move school bond votes thresholds from 60 percent to a simple majority. This is more BAD fiscal policy.

Register your CON position no later than 7AM, February 7th.

You can submit a written testimony on HB-1226 HERE: CSI (wa.gov)

HJR-4200 has a hearing in the House Capital Budget Committee on Monday, February 7 at 8AM

HJR-4200: Amending the Constitution to allow a simple majority of voters voting to authorize school district bonds. This bill goes hand-in-hand with HB-1226 above. This would amend the state constitution as needed to allow for the simple majority to pass school bonds. Currently, 60% is required.

Register your CON position no later than 7AM, February 7th.

You can also submit a written testimony on HJR-4200 HERE: CSI (wa.gov)

SHB-1735 has a hearing in the Senate Law & Justice Committee on Tuesday, February 8 at 8:30AM

SHB-1735: Modifying the standard for use of force by peace officers. This bill is better than the current law so we need to keep it moving forward. It still needs improvements, so if you wish to send a written testimony please let the committee know that you support this bill but to please work with our law enforcement community to perfect this bill so they can do their jobs to serve and protect.

Register your PRO position no later than 7:30AM, February 8th.
