Week 2: Washington Legislative Session 2024

Week 2: Washington Legislative Session 2024

The first week of Washington’s short 2024 legislative session is almost complete and it’s been a doozy! We’ve seen a lot of bad policy proposed and more to come in week 2. But we are so encouraged by the thousands of you who have taken action on so many bills just in week 1. Let’s double those efforts in week 2 – commit to being so loud they can’t ignore you! It may take time, but we’ve got to start somewhere!

Below are just 10 of the bills with public hearings next week that we feel are the most consequential and need citizen attention and input.  The following list are the ones within our scope of work (1A, 2A, parental rights, education and right to life) that we feel are the biggest priority in week 1, with ways you can take action!

HJR 4207: Amending the Constitution to allow a majority of voters to authorize school district bonds.

OPPOSE.

Hearing date: Jan 15 at 1:30PM, House Education Committee

This bill would amend the state constitution to allow a simple majority to pass school district bonds, rather than the current law requiring 60% approval to pass. School districts around the state have been having difficulty passing their bonds and levies due to the failure to educate Washington students.

community, or regional park facilities at which children and youth are likely to be
present and at which appropriate signage has been posted notifying the public that
    weapons are not permitted;

SB 5427: the “Tattletale Hotline”

OPPOSE

Hearing date: Jan 18th at 4PM, Senate Ways & Means Committee

This bill creates a hotline through the WA Attorney General’s office to report “hate crimes” or “bias incidents” and receive a $2,000 payment. What determines a “hate crime” or “bias incident” is not defined, it’s based on the perception of the “victim.” This is a carry-over bill from 2023, if it passes out of the Ways & Means Committee, it will likely go to a floor vote, then move to the House.

SB 6144: Establishing a prescribing psychologist certification

OPPOSE

Hearing date: Jan 19th at 8AM, Senate Health & Long Term Care

This bill would allow psychologists to prescribe medication. This is particularly troubling given the laws in Washington pertaining to minor children. A school psychologist would be able to prescribe medication for a minor child without parental consent especially if it is “protected health care” (abortion or “gender affirming” care). A child could be prescribed a chemical abortion, puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and psychotropic drugs…just to name a few top concerns. This bill is troubling for many reasons. This is not good healthcare practice to protect patients.

TAKE ACTION: You can sign in CON for this bill, you can testify in person or remotely or you can submit written testimony that will become public record. Click HERE to sign up to testify.

SB 6151: Relating to the provision of ultrasound

OPPOSE

Hearing date: Jan 19th at 8AM, Senate Health & Long Term Care

SB 6151 would greatly restrict the ability of Crisis Pregnancy Centers to use ultrasound medical imaging technology, allowing an expectant mother to see the development of her unborn baby. SB 6151 would directly result in more abortions.

TAKE ACTION: You can sign in CON for this bill, you can testify in person or remotely or you can submit written testimony that will become public record. Click HERE to sign up to testify.

30 SECOND ACTION: Click the red button below to sign in CON (must sign in by 7AM, Friday, January 19th.
