There is no shortage of bills filed in the Washington state legislature this year. As we reported last month, Jay Inslee and Bob Ferguson are laser-focused on passing a gun control “package” of bills with their grandaddy of them all being the “assault weapons ban.”
Here in Washington, Senator Perry Dozier of Walla Walla has sponsored a Parents Bill of Rights related to their child’s education in public schools. We have seen the public schools – led by the state OSPI – intentionally cut parents out of the education process and bring policies and programs into the schools that are anti-parent and anti-family.
HB-1045 would create a pilot program for leftist democrats to introduce a universal income to Washington state, following the lead of California. This bill asserts that climate change, disease and quarantines will become the “new normal”, causing economic hardship and requiring the state to respond by providing financial income to Washington residents. Who will pay for this? We will.
The 2023 Washington State Legislative session begins today at noon when the legislators are sworn-in in Olympia.
Make a commitment this year to take action at your local level. Maybe it’s your local school board, city council, county council, etc. Pick one to follow and engage with and stick with it all year!

For most of us, when we hear the term “civic duty,” we think of attending rallies, waving signs, or filling out our ballots. These are all essential and God-given opportunities for political discourse in our country. However, it seems too many conservatives ignore the not-so-sexy activities of legislative participation and communicating with our elected officials about the issues we’re passionate about. Conservatives may not be intentionally ignoring this crucial element of civic duty. It’s very possible most don’t know where to start, or when is the best timing, or who is the best person to contact, especially when our own representatives work against our political and moral values.
One of, if not the top priority for Washington Democrats is gun control, more specifically, an assault weapons ban. We anticipate Governor Inslee and Attorney General Bob Ferguson will be announcing their plans to do an “agency request bill” for the state legislature to run an assault weapons ban in the 2023 session next week.
